Fracture management and trauma patients
Urgent treatment for vehicle crash victims, patients who fell from a considerable height, suffered a gunshot or any other accident.
Joint degenerative disease, Arthrosis
Intense use or aging produce joint degeneration. It’s caused by normal wear and tear of the cartilage around the joint. Sometimes some meds, rehab and weight control is sufficient. A joint replacement with an endoprosthesis might be needed.
Joint replacement surgery, endoprosthesis
It might be the best option in the presence of advanced joint destruction. Most frequent replaced joints are knee and hip, although shoulder, elbow, wrist, ankle and many others are available.
Arthroscopy
Is a minimally invasive procedure, guided by cameras and long tubular instruments. Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL), Posterior Cruciate Ligament (PCL) repair, meniscal surgery or shoulder arthroscopy are some examples of this technique.
Sports medicine
Some injuries are particularly frequent in sports practice. Ankle sprains, muscular strains, ACL, PCL or meniscal tears are common lesions related to sports like soccer or basketball. There is a very long list of sports related to the wide options of sports that exist.
Work injuries
Machinery related injuries, heavy weight lifting, or pain associated with bad sustained postures are a common cause of specialized consultation.
Low back pain, sciatic nerve compression
Turns to be a very incapacitating pain. Unfortunately, once it appears, it tends to appear again in many patients. It is important to study its origin, so an early treatment can avoid late consequences. While sometimes weight control, rehab, and meds might be enough, other times spine surgery is the only and the best choice.
Pediatric and Growth disorders
Some children show gait problems, knee or ankle rotations. Hip dysplasia, spine deviation (scoliosis), flat foot, club foot, and growing pains are also common.
Genetic malformations
Little patients might have bone and joint disorders associated to other syndromes or with problems before birth. A group of specialists is needed to give a complete treatment. Other areas as kidneys, heart and gastrointestinal structures must be evaluated.
Bone, joint and muscle pain management
If pain or function loss persists even under a specialized treatment, another illness might be behind. Rheumatologic diseases are commonly masked by orthopaedic problems and are diagnosed after valuable time is lost. Good communication between the patient and his doctor is key.
Complications and sequelae
Even with the best care and health team, some patients will still suffer complications. Risk factors include diabetes and aging. Loss of skin, chronic pain, deformity, infection, non-union (pseudoarthrosis), paralysis or joint stiffness are some complications which require specialized treatment.
Bone and Joint Infection, osteomyelitis, septic arthritis, septic prosthesis loosening
Microorganism bone, joint or endoprosthesis invasion carries severe consequences. Treatment becomes a true challenge. Expertise and experience are required to achieve the best possible result, restore function and avoid an amputation when possible.
Bone Tumors and Cancer
There are many types of bone tumors and malignancies that can affect the musculoskeletal system. Early detection leads to better results.
Numb extremities
Mainly because of nerve compression in any site from spine to the affected area. Loss of strength, sensitivity, and function frequently is permanent. Early detection and proper treatment are crucial.
Foot and ankle surgery
Treatment of Hallux Valgus (Bunions), plantar fasciitis, calcaneal spur, Haglund deformity, claw fingers, Achilles tendinopathy, metatarsalgia, etc.
Rehabilitation
Despite an accurate diagnosis and proper treatment, lack of Rehab can result in treatment failure, particularly in adults. Rehab must be prescribed and supervised by professionals.
